Today before we left Kampala for the town of Gulu we headed for one last meeting in parliament. Today we got to speak to the deputy speaker (huge deal). He was brilliant, so composed, and so humbled. It occurred to me during this meeting just how important ideas and suggestions are to the government of Uganda. Its not like our government that has been established and has been the same for so many years. Their government is new, fresh, and still being altered. Its amazing to think that we were able to sit and talk to such influential people for this country.
After we left parliament we left on our long journey north. It was the longest ride ever!!!! Not to mention I was in the fold out seat of our matatu, which makes for an uncomfortable ride. On the way there the car behind us that contained all of our baggage got a flat tire. We had to stop on the side of the road (very skinny roads) to allow for the tire to be exchanged. It was also my first “bush pee” for the trip. We finally got back on the road to the kakanyero hotel. Because of the delay we ended up passing over the Nile River at dark... and I couldnt see a thing. So Disappointed!!!! We arrived at our hotel after a 5.5 hour trip. The hotel is nice and in the middle of the city, the room that I am sharing with someone else is a bit small but has a bathroom attached and a refrigerator. I couldnt be happier that im on the street side and not the side where you can hear the animals getting killed in the morning. Im starting to appreciate little blessings like that :)
